Delta airlines suspended the nonstop flight from Atlanta to Mumbai, India, leaving the airline with no nonstop flights between the United States and India.
Delta said the decision was prompted by lower projected passenger demand.
Delta will offer flights between the U.S and India through Amsterdam and through Paris CDG on Air France,Through its joint venture with Air France-KLM, Delta offers 31 peak-day departures to 20-plus nonstop destinations from Amsterdam. This service includes year-round connections to five of Delta’s U.S. hubs. Other major U.S. connecting gateways served from Amsterdam include Boston, Los Angeles, new york JFK and San Francisco. Amsterdam also serves as Delta’s gateway to India with daily nonstop service to Mumbai and new Delhi.
Via Amsterdam, Delta, Air France and KLM customers also enjoy connections to hundreds of eastbound destinations, including Africa, Asia and throughout continental Europe.
“Delta remains committed to India and will continue to evaluate the market for nonstop service from the United States,” the statement said.
Responding to the worldwide economic downturn, Delta has also suspended flights between Atlanta and Shanghai, China, and Seoul, South Korea, beginning Sept. 1 as the airline cuts international capacity by another 5 percent on top of the 10 percent reductions it announced last year.
