What month has the lowest airfare rates depends on what airline you fly (as they all vary in price), and of course on the country you're hoping to fly to. But here are a few general tips:

Cathay Pacific Fuel Surcharge increase
The Hong Kong government approved Cathay Pacific Airways application to increase passenger fuel surcharges by 18% in April because of higher global oil prices.
The Civil Aviation Department also approved a request from Singapore Airlines Ltd. (C6L.SG) to raise its fuel surcharges by the same amount, it said.
Fuel accounts for up to a third of an airline's operating cost, and a steep price rise could hurt the industry's efforts to recover from the effects of the global financial crisis.
The fuel surcharge for short-haul flights operated by Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines will rise 18% to HK$194 per journey from HK$165, and the surcharge for its long-haul flights will also rise 18% to HK$884 from HK$747.

Hawaiian Airlines announced daily non stop flight between Honolulu and Osaka, Japan. The flight is the third new Asia destination added by the airline in recent months.

Qantas DFW Sydney QF8 flights
Qantas airways will launch direct services from Sydney to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) from 16 May 2011, giving Australians unprecedented access to destinations across the United States. The route will see Qantas operate direct outbound flights from Sydney to DFW (as QF7), returning to Sydney via Brisbane (as QF8). DFW is the primary hub of Qantas' fellow oneworld alliance member, American Airlines, and the two carriers will soon seek to expand their commercial relationship.
Qantas will offer four return flights to DFW each week, featuring a three-class Boeing 747 aircraft. Direct Sydney-San Francisco (SFO) services will be discontinued on 14 May 2011, but SFO will remain part of Qantas' network as a codeshare destination.
The direct Sydney-Dallas service can only run eastbound, however -- the return flight will go from DFW to Brisbane and refuel before continuing on to Sydney, due to the prevailing headwind direction over the Pacific.
The Dallas flights will be numbered QF7/QF8:
QF7 will depart Sydney at 1325 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, crossing the International Date Line and arriving in Dallas at 1350 the same day.
QF8 will fly Dallas-Brisbane-Sydney, departing DFW at 2200 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, to arrive in Brisbane at 0500 two days later, before departing at 0630 to touch down in Sydney at 0805.
From DFW, American Airlines and its regional airline partner, American Eagle, operate nearly 750 flights to 186 destinations worldwide. DFW is American's largest hub and it offers easy connections to American's four other cornerstone markets of Chicago, Miami, New York and Los Angeles.
Thirteen new US destinations and three Mexican destinations* will join the Qantas network through new American Airlines-operated codeshare services, meaning Qantas will codeshare with AA to a total of 51 destinations in the US, Canada and Mexico.
In further positive news for Australian and US travellers, Qantas will also increase the frequency of its Los Angeles-New York service (QF107/108) from six times per week to daily, from June 2011.

Volaris Airlines will start low-cost, daily nonstop service between Oakland International Airport (OAK) and Mexico City (MEX) beginning May 6. Southwest Airlines does not fly to hawaii,but southwest has contracted for 20 Boeing 737-800s from Boeing that would allow it to offer direct flights to Hawaii. The airline will need federal approval to fly the long over-water route to Hawaii with the Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Kelly and other Southwest officials talked about the company’s plans at its annual media day on Thursday.
Hawaii would provide a plum destination for regular Southwest customers redeeming their frequent-flier credits, and Atlanta is a key market for business travelers.
Southwest doesn’t fly to Atlanta right now, but AirTran operates about 200 flights a day there.
The move is a new direction for an airline that currently has neither the equipment nor the authority to fly to Hawaii. The first of the jets is scheduled to be delivered in March 2012.
The Dallas News reported Thursday that Southwest had posted a job for an ETOPS program manager. "You can't fly to Hawaii if you don't have ETOPS certification, and you can't have ETOPS certification without the right people," said reporter Terry Maxon.
Beginning Nov. 12, travelers will be able to book travel to Mexico from about 20 U.S. cities served by Southwest. The cross-border flights will be operated by Volaris from Los Angeles, Oakland and San Jose, Calif.
And the Dallas-based airline set a price of $5 per flight for onboard Internet access. There’s still no way, however, for customers to see on Southwest’s website whether their plane will be among those outfitted for WiFi. Southwest says it will notify passengers by email if their flight is equipped with WiFi. It plans to have WiFi on 60 planes by year-end.

But it's strictly for Qantas passengers connecting from Australia and New Zealand – no tickets are sold inside the US for this flight. Just as well, because Yanks may become quite jealous of the fitout on the A330: as one of Qantas' international variants of the A330 it includes 36 Skybeds in business class.
Features for Qantas trans-Pacific International Economy passengers, departing on US mainland flights, include complimentary: award-winning Qantas service; enhanced food and wine options, including a la carte menu selections; up to 400 video-on-demand program options with a personal, in-seat interactive video screen; and a carefully-considered amenity pack, featuring a selection of comforts to enhance the flight experience.
So in this stretch-out mode and with 60 inches of legroom (almost twice that of the A330's economy cabin) it's one of the best ways to spend the almost six hours shuttling from coast to coast and is a cut above almost anything on the US domestic market.

Virgin Airlines flights from Florida to Toronto
Virgin America serve Orlando Florida with daily nonstop flights from both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) beginning August 19, 2010. Additionally, the airline fly to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) with daily flights from both LAX and SFO.
